Here are some pictures Mike sent me of some bucks he has harvested over the years including the 8 pointer he has taken in 2009 so far. These bucks were ALL taken from Westchester County, NY. Looks like a nice trophy room.

Just giving my recap for Monday afternoon’s hunt. We may need the CSI team in to solve this one. Sorry for the tapping on the desk. I didn’t even realize I was doing it.

On a slightly different subject (that I forgot to mention in the video), I was emailed this article about a family who had their dog shot by a bowhunter in a town park that doesn’t allow hunting. It’s bad enough that the person trespassed and illegally hunted the area, but to shoot the guy’s dog!… That’s just down right wrong. Even though I was told that it is legal to shoot dogs in the woods in New York, keep in mind that the dog probably belongs to a family who really loved him. There are plenty of other animals to shoot, leave the family pets alone.

OK, end of rant.

The NYS DEC have begun mailing about 21,000 leftover Deer Management Permits (DMPs) to hunters who were previously denied during the initial application period. This correction process occurs each year and lets us issue the target number of permits in units where we didn’t receive as many applicants as we expected.

DEC will also have several Wildlife Management Units with DMPs available on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning Sunday, November 1. During this extended application period, hunters can apply for up to 2 additional DMPs in these units.

See http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/59293.html for the full announcement and list of units involved.

If you are curious about the DMP quota setting and issuance process, you may enjoy reading about it at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/47743.html

I got an email from my friend. He forwarded this from his guide when he hunts in Montana. He said..

 Possible record Wolf

“I received this from my guide I hunted with in Montana. This Wolf was shot recently in Drayton Valley, Alberta..which is near Edmonton about 3 hours North of Calgary. The wolf weighs over 230lbs smashing the previous record of 175lbs. Wouldn’t want to run into this puppy in the woods. Apparently a bear hunter witnessed this wolf chase off a big black bear at his baiting station.”

I agree 100%! I have a 100 pound German Shepard and this dog makes my dog look like a poodle!
